FASHION TRENDS I HATE #1 – Drop crotch pants
by Morganvsmorgan
I’m pretty sure anyone who holds an interest in fashion has at least a few trends that they’ve absolutely hated. Let’s just be honest about it – who amongst us hasn’t made that scrunched up kid-face when confronted with every store selling variations of a piece of clothing that’s definetly NOT made for the masses. Its just something that I, in my 18 years of infinite wisdom hold to be a fact – some clothes need a special type of person to wear & stop the clothes from wearing them. Let’s discuss:
Drop crotch pants. Or for that matter, any other kind of pants that can make you look like you’ve taken a shit while strolling along the street.
Dropcrotch pants are a MINEFIELD OF DISASTER WAITING TO HAPPEN. They are for the bold and style drenched. Do not think this is me bragging here – I don’t even think I could pull them off. Let’s just think here:
POSSIBLE DISASTERS:
1. People who pass by are forced to wonder whether you took a shit that is weighing down your pants. Seriously guys, sometimes that’s what it looks like.
3. You suddenly find you have a really long crotch region.
I mean – I give credit when credit is deserved; and there are some people who can work the dropped crotch – given the actual drop crotched pant is a decent one (there’s a post in itself – logistics: what makes a good dropcrotch pant) . There are some people who can pull it off.
Oh, and probably all Swedish people. Seriously. There’s something in the water there.
NOW OVER TO YOU GUYS:
1. WHAT’S A TREND YOU HATE? & WHY?
2.YOU PERSONALLY- DROP CROTCH PANTS, Y OR N ?
3.SEEN ANYONE WEARING DROP CROTCH PANTS & LOOKING RAD? LINK ME, I WANNA SEE.
4. FOR THAT MATTER, ANYONE LOOKING REALLY TERRIBLE IN THEM TOO. I’M A BAD PERSON, I KNOW.
haha AMEN! i am on board with you about the drop crotch, lets just say it’s not meant for the everyday, especially when coupled with jeans! blah!

hahaha “‘nice outfits” indeed….;)
Oh man these pants are brutal and I will never understand them…. Your write up cracked me up though ha ha!
Another “trend” I’ve never understood was the Poncho, I’m sorry people but why????
there are some definite trends that should stick to the runway and not make it out in real life. those pants are definitely the ultimate stay on the runway trend!

The drop crotch trend is awful. I’ve never seen the denim ones though, and they’re even worse!

I can’t deal with the drop crotch on anyone, even the Swedes. Maybe they are comfortable or something… but I don’t really think that is a good enough reason to give the illusion that your crotch is in between your knees.
so glad to find there are more people who aren’t into this kind of trousers! i would never be able to wear them, i truly admire the people who can pull off a decent outfit with them!
i can’t stand when girls wear leggings as pants (no tunic, no long cardigan, no dress over it… just a short top)… really bothers me and I haven’t seen one single person that can pull that of 🙂

Haha, love this post, everyone (including me) posts about everything they like and this is a breath of fresh air. I too hate these trousers! I hated the ‘slogan’ trend – I don’t like T-shirts, jumper etc. with kitsch and childish ‘I’m with stupid’ statements on them. This is something that should be left with kid’s clothing.

Hahaha….Its been awhile since I checked in on your blog and this was the first post I saw. Drop Crotch pants….I have to agree some women can pull them off and well. I’m hoping this is one trend that generally misses middle America though. I can see some people walking around Ohio looking insane.
drop crotch denim? hideous on anyone. just why?
rick owens does a drop crotch like no one else. i wear his versions and find them elegantly avant garde.
as for emmanuelle alt: she can wear anything.
I’m a pretty big fan of drop-crotch pants. They’re a favorite look of mine, actually. The ones you pictured aren’t very cute, but with every style there are hideous examples. And denim doesn’t really work that well in this style because the fabric is too stiff, so it’s sort of a bad idea all around. I also wear leggings as pants– I like my butt, and wear thick, opaque ones so I don’t see the faux pas there either.
I will say that I think of fashion as totally subjective. I don’t believe in judging trends or styles as ugly or fashionable. People should wear what they like, not what others think they should wear. I wear weird things sometimes. I wear things that aren’t flattering. So what? It strikes me as judgmental to care what other people wear. I can draw inspiration from what I see, but I’m not going to poke fun at it. Even if someone’s pant DO look like they just took a crap in them.
Hey Lydia, thanks for your comment. I agree with your comments on denim, they definetly look better on a fabric thats softer – and I also like to wear leggings as pants and see no issue with it as long as, of course, they’re not see-through. :p
But yes, I agree with you, fashion IS very subjective – and alot of people absolutely love the drop crotch look. I freely admit that there are many people who absolutely work this look & love this look, and I definetly wouldn’t single someone out and embarass them just because I didn’t like what they were wearing, I was just expressing the opinion that for myself, for my personal wear, drop crotch pants aren’t going to factor in, and the above is why I can’t seem to understand them.
Apologies if I came off as judgmental, but I like the honesty of admitting to trends you don’t like as much as trends you do.
Again thanks for your insightful comment 🙂 xx
I completely agree, I always hated crocs they just seemed like a violation of nature.
Drop-crotch denim seems like a cruel practical joke played on the buying public by fashion designers.
I’ve tried on two pairs of drop-crotch trousers–they were more like harem pants really, very baggy and loose–and I liked the way I looked and felt in them, just not enough to actually BUY them.
However, I can’t think of a single example of these looking good on anybody!
